The chart which is currently reproduced on the common faces of these coins represents only Europe of the 15, such as it existed at the time of the design of the coins in 1999, for the 12 Member States of the euro. The decision to modify this common face was made by the brought together Ministers for the 25 on May 13, 2005 in Brussels.
It is the Luxembourg Minister for Finance, Jean-Claude Juncker who made share of information, at the end of a meeting with its counterparts of the other European governments. The change is planned for the introduction of the euro into the new countries entering the zone euro, that is to say, as soon as possible at January first, 2007. The new common faces could not be satisfied to alter the chart currently existing. The Union could also decide of a new design which is not based on geographical criteria, or on imaginary elements, like the bridges and the windows of the notes.
